Hi all

i prepared myself a batch of hide glue last night and let it soaked overnight. My question would be would it be ok if i put the gelatinous stuff in the fridge this morning and leave it there until tonight because i did not have a chance to melt the gelatin yet ?

TIA

Serge

Sure. It usually doesn't grow hair for a month in the fridge. (think fuzzy bear glue)

Serge...That should be no problem.

As far as mold growth...I have stored mixed hide glue in the fridge for over 3 months without mold growth. One thing I do with the containers before adding new glue...I wash them thoroughly and then I put them in boiling water for a few minutes to kill off any mold spores before adding the new glue. I also use small containers and keep them totally full to minimize the air head space.

Thanks JJ, makes me feel better, it's exactly what i did last night, i covered the granules abundantly with water and it settled up to the rim so there is no air head space.

We keep ours in the freezer with great success.

I freeze mine. Make a bog batch, cut it up into strips, and freeze it. Take out a strip when needed...

The bottle I use in the shop gets put out on a little shelf outside my door every night, all winter. Nature is my freezer...<g>

The Whyskey Jacks(the Grey Jay) like to peck at the bottle some times...

Bruce,

I mixed about 1/8 of a square margarine pot and added water to a little bit over the half line, and it rose to the lid.

J and Mario, thanks for the input, my hhg will be safer in the freezer than in the fridge, got a teenager at home!
